Ok fine, so when I use the word "Spree" I'm actually being facetious, it's more like one article of clothing update at a time. You see as of late, I have felt that as much as I consider myself a savvy and "in tune" Fashionista, I have been guilty of the same crime and mistake that many women commit- I have become a slave to trends and no longer been true to my unique style and more importantly, my body shape. I have made the grave error of shopping for clothing and styles that I like on my friends or on acquaintances, except that they don't share my body type. I see a friend wearing a pair of skinny jeans with a loosely fitted boyfriend cut tee, a long necklace, and a pair of snazzy stiletto pumps in a fabulously effortless yet chic look and I immediately want to steal it. However, I forget that unlike me, they are petite and their silhouette doesn't even come close to resembling mine. I have to face the facts: I have a generous bosom, I (specially now) have hips, I don't have a Shakira 24 inch waist, and I have long limbs---I'm awkwardly shaped, therefore, a boyfriend fit tee would make me look pregnant (again) or just downright fat. Skinny jeans don't flatter me; they hug my hips way too much and accent the fact that I have long chicken legs, creating a very unflattering lollipop effect. So my biggest frustration has become as of late, that my tastes in fashion don't compliment my god-given (he and I will discuss that at some point...) body. Thus, I have reached the conclusion that I need to reinvent myself by A. defining what body shape I have, B. getting rid of any unflattering clothes (hello Goodwill), which I hope to achieve with the help of my trusted BFFs and make a hopefully fun and girly event out of it, C. get back into shape post-partum (I know some of this frustration stems from my new temporary body, emphasis on 'temporary,' though it was present pre-pregnancy), and D. slowly shopping for my newfound style. As I undergo this process, I will upkeep this blog with my progress, my findings, and perhaps if I'm up to it, some images...who knows; perhaps it'll inspire you to join me :)
This project is essentially my attempt at getting back to feeling like "Me," to feeling "sexy yet refined," to ditching the sweats, no makeup and pseudo-bun look and wearing civilian clothing on a regular basis. This process will entail not only clothing updating but also accessories, colors, nails (primarily actually having them done on a regular basis, and after the wedding; hair (specifically a more practical yet still youthful and chic cut). While this project might seem superficial, I would disagree. I think it is important to not become comfortable or complacent and always seek to be the best version of yourself that you can be. I have been very focused on fully immersing myself in my new role as a mom, and in pursuing my growth on a professional level; so I am now ensuring that in these efforts I don't abandon who I am as a woman and that I continue to feel good about myself. Who knows, perhaps this exploration may help me discover a more deeper redefining of the self. Our image is after all how we present ourselves to our social environment, and whether we care to admit it or not it is what we first see, what we analyze, and what we digest...
